Here is a Step-by-Step Process to Help You Tackle Decluttering and Purging

In Nova Scotia, we have just spent the last four months or so hunkering down and for some of us that means we collect stuff.  After all, it’s only natural to squirrel away our belongings during the long winter months. But now it’s Spring and I’m not sure about you, but I’m feeling the urge to purge.

There is no time like the present to open the windows and let in the fresh air. With longer days upon us it seems to me that a little space and fresh air in our closets, drawers and storage areas might help us feel just a little bit lighter.  I encourage you to do a good decluttering of your home so that in a few weeks when the weather is nicer here in Halifax, Nova Scotia you will have that all behind you and can enjoy the few months of warmer weather ahead.

I know, I know, you really don’t enjoy the decluttering process, so you put it off for another day.  And another day, and another day and so on . . .

Please, take a deep breath and take one container out of the closet like I just did.  Take everything out of the container. Now, take a long look at all that stuff and see how much you can let go of.  I mean, really, are you going to use any of it in the next few months?  Please remember that “maybe someday” is not a valid reason to hold onto something especially if your goal is to live with less and enjoy life a little more.

Set aside anything you think you can let go of. Take another deep breath and see if you can put a few more things in the give away pile. And a few more things and so on.  My hope for you is that the same thing will happen as it just did for me. I got excited about how much I was able to let go of in ten short minutes and I went around our home looking for more things to get rid of.

The main benefit of all this purging is that you will have a lot less stuff to organize and take care of and there will be a whole lot less tidying up to do.  Go for it, get organized, let go!

Please post a comment and let me know how it goes.
