Staging Your Home for Sale – How To Video

I am not a professionally trained stager, but I do know that decluttering your home is the first step to preparing it for sale. Even if you’re not selling, pretend you are staging and see how it feels.

Here’s a helpful video https://www.visiontv.ca/videos/downsizing-tips-jane-veldhoven-staging-your-home-sale/

And some tips to get you started.

  • Remove objects from all the horizontal surfaces. You may want one or two decorative objects anchoring your artwork on a console table for example, but no visible clutter.
  • Remove everything from the floor and store it away or let it go. This will immediately make your home feel more spacious.
  • De-personalize by removing family photos and other objects that do may not appeal to a broad audience.
  • Clean out all your closets and try to leave extra space so buyers will think you have lots of storage.
  • Remove bulky furniture that can make your rooms appear crowded and small. You are downsizing so you won’t need it all anyway!
  • Remember less is more. Your home may feel empty and void to you but that allows buyers to envision themselves in your house.

I have had so many clients over the years tell me they wish they had done this before they decided to sell their house. There’s no time like the present, so go ahead  . . .  get organized!
