After watching or reading the daily news, perhaps now more than ever, you need to escape from everyday life and enjoy a few laughs and support some homegrown entertainment. If that is the case, I hope you will take the time to watch Season 2 of The Big Downsize on VisionTV. The show airs Mondays at 10 pm (Atlantic Time). This 5-part documentary series, filmed in Nova Scotia and produced by Tell Tale Productions, follows the stories of two families and their journey letting go of a lifetime of belongings to downsize to a smaller home.
The Families of Season 2
Anne and James Rodger, along with their dog, Louie, have their large home in Fall River on the market and plan to downsize to a small house or condo. At first glance, it looks to me as though they don’t need an expert in decluttering. Their home was staged for sale, so everything appears well-organized and under control. However, lurking behind every closet and cabinet door is a lifetime of belongings. Since they will be moving over the next few months, they need to get things under control and downsize to about 50 percent of what they currently own.
Our other couple, Patti and Faye, sold their large home in New Glasgow very quickly and had no time to downsize anything. So, they packed it all and sent it to storage and are living in their RV for the summer. They are moving into a small 3-bedroom new build in Upper Sackville. As I prepare to work with them, I really have no idea what we are dealing with. All of their belongings will arrive at the new house, and then will have to be sorted, downsized, and organized to help them settle in. Not the best way to be tackling a downsizing and moving project, that’s for sure!
Even though both couples are facing a monumental, life-changing project, they maintain their sense of humour throughout. There are a lot of laughs, a few disagreements and some “ah-ha” moments along the way. You will get to know these families and their stuff and learn a few things too, so don’t miss the show!
