Organizing and Decorating Quick Fixes for the Year End

If you’ve fallen out of love with your home this year, try one or more of these organizing and decorating quick fixes. They will help you feel more positive and give you the energy and inspiration to tackle some bigger projects in the new year.

The Entryway

Decluttering and redecorating your home’s entryway is an excellent idea at this time of year – especially if that area has been frustrating you for months. Also, if you welcome guests into your home, you won’t have to apologize for your messy, uninspiring entryway.

Begin by focusing on getting everything off the floor. Install some large hooks and simple organizing solutions like these affordable shoe organizers that work well for narrow spaces. Next, hang some artwork that makes you smile when you open the door.

Kitchen Surfaces

The busy holiday season is not the time to start a huge kitchen reorganization. However, clear the island and countertops of unwanted clutter. It can help you feel more relaxed and in control during a time of year that is typically super hectic. If you only have a short time, remove all the odds and ends, paper, etc., and place it in a box with a lid. Label the box “stuff from the kitchen counters.” Next, place it in your home office area. Then, mark your calendar and schedule a date with yourself to deal with this box of “stuff” after the holidays.

Once you’ve cleared the counters, place a beautiful decorative bowl or tray in the middle of your kitchen with some decorations to add a little holiday cheer. Additionally, make a pact with everyone in your household so they will not put random objects on your beautiful clear surface.

Main Bedroom

With children home from school and guests visiting, your bedroom might be your only place of escape during the busy holiday season. If so, please take a few minutes to create a relaxing sanctuary where you can rest and rejuvenate. Again, if your time is limited, pick up everything off the floor, place it in a labelled bin, and tuck it away. Do the same thing with the tops of your dressers and nightstands. If you don’t need any of that stuff by the time the new year rolls around, consider donating it all without going through each item. I know it’s a radical move, but it could work!

To make your room feel more relaxing, change your duvet cover or add a lovely white, textured quilt. One of the reasons hotels dress their beds in white is because it feels calm and relaxing. Adding a colourful, soft throw blanket to your bed and a couple of decorative toss cushions creates a quick and easy bedroom makeover.

Turn Quick Fixes into New Year’s Resolutions

Turn these organizing and decorating quick fixes into New Year’s resolutions. Make an agreement with yourself that you will not, under any circumstances, allow clutter to reappear in these three areas. If you can master that over the next few weeks, you’re ready to dive deeper into organizing and decorating your home. I’m happy to help support you on your journey. Reach out to see how we can work together.

From my home to yours, I wish you a joyful holiday season.
