5 Recommendations for Sourcing Home Office Furniture

During the past 20 years working as a Professional Organizer and Interior Decorator, I have decluttered and designed dozens of home offices. Having a functional and beautiful space to work from home is absolutely crucial whether you are working for someone else, running your own business, or managing your household. If you enjoy being in the space, you will be more productive – it’s as simple as that! However, finding quality functional pieces fit for a home office can be challenging. To help you in your search, here are my five recommendations for sourcing home office furniture.

BDI

BDI is my absolute top choice for a manufacturer of home office furniture. However, you need a healthy budget as their furniture is expensive. But, it is beautiful, functional, and well made, so it is worth the investment because it will last a long time. Their multifunction cabinet is my favourite piece. Just be sure your printer will fit in the compartment before you order one.

Huppe

Huppe runs a close second for me if you are in the market for high-end office furniture. The Gravity Collection is a favourite because you can customize the shelving with file and supply drawers as needed. And the desk integrates perfectly to fit your space. With a choice of finishes and quality craftsmanship, you can’t go wrong.

Monarch

Monarch (available at Staples Canada) is affordable yet functional. If you are on a budget, this could be the collection for you. I really like the single pedestal desk (It comes in either 48″ or 60″ lengths). Combine the desk with a 2-drawer lateral file cabinet, and you will have a super functional office with a good amount of storage space. Place the printer on top of the file cabinet to keep your desktop clear.

IKEA

With several affordable options for home office furniture, IKEA is a go-to supplier for many of us. I like the style and functionality of the Alex desk. For their best quality, choose products from the Galant line. One word of warning – their file cabinets have odd sizing and don’t always accommodate US legal-size hanging files very well. Please visit your local store and have a look while keeping your needs in mind.

Work from Home Desks

Work From Home Desks has some unique designs you might want to try. I haven’t used this company yet, so I can’t speak to the quality, but they certainly look interesting. They are simple to assemble and disassemble, making them a great option for people who move frequently. Mind you, I am a bit concerned that there is no built-in storage. It could be a challenge if you struggle with keeping your space tidy.

Of course, there are many other places to shop when you are sourcing home office furniture. Remember to think about what your work requirements are and the tools you need to store to keep your office tidy. And speaking of keeping things tidy, here is a short post on how to cope if you’re stressed out by piles of paper.
